Snow and ice tourism sector continues to experience growth

(China) – Revenue from China’s ice and snow tourism sector expected to reach RMB670bn yuan by 2020.

Data from the ‘Overview of Tourism Market in 2018 Spring Festival Holiday’ report, recently issued by the National Tourism Administration, shows that snowfields in northeast and northern China have seen an increase of 10% in visitor numbers during the last holiday season.

Snowfields in southern China have also become an area of growth, with some of the attraction highlights including Shaoxing Qiao Bo Ice and Snow World in Zhejiang; Shennongjia Snow Resort in Hubei; Xiling Snow Mountain Snow Resort; and Liupanshui Yushe Snow Mountain Snow Resort.

Looking ahead, it is estimated that China’s snow and ice tourism sector will see visitor numbers grow rapidly by 15-20% and by the year 2022, the number of tourists will be around the 340 million mark. Income is set to increase to RMB670bn yuan, which will drive tourism and associated sectors to a value of more than RMB2.88tn yuan.
